A pH below 6.0 starts to limit the availability of major nutrients whilst a pH above 7.0 starts to limit trace element uptake. The exception is Molybdenum which is more available as the pH rises. The usual practice of keeping agricultural soils at an average pH of around 6.5 is a compromise for nutrient availability
